Plan Incliné
|
June 29, last day in France. I talked Katy into a "leisurely" 20 km (round trip) bike ride along the canal. Leaving from Saverne we went to the Inclined Plane (Plan Incliné). The Inclined Plane is a unique engineering work that connects two canals of greatly differing elevation. It serves as a sort of uber-lock. Very little energy is expended in raising and lowering boats (and the box of water holding them) because counterweights on very thick cables balance the load. |
